2024 SunDiego Boardshops Am Slam Surf Contest Series Event 2 in Ocean Beach Recap

A quick turnaround for the Sun Diego Am Slam Series event #2 saw a great turnout for our annual trip back through time and space to Ocean Beach. OB is full of character, and you will always see something that you may have never seen before.

Fortunately, for us, the surfing was the show on Sunday as 120
amateur surfers hit the water to see who would come out on top of each division at Am Slam

The 15+ am division saw Kyan Yang lap the field with precise power surfing on the two best waves of the final. Dane Libby made it close toward the end of the heat with a two-turn combo that ended with a smooth air revo. Sean MacDonald turned heads all day with smooth surfing with a bit of flare. He came
in a respectful third in the stacked final.

Moses Hennings had to wait to beach enter on Sunday, waiting for someone to hopefully no show. His fortitude paid off as he not only found a spot in the event but took full advantage by winning the whole dang event!

Series leader Granger Mitchell came second to put a sizable distance between him and second place.

The Women’s Longboard final was a close affair as every single competitor was in the running to take out the event until the final horn sounded. Carlsbad’s Sofia Todd took the dub over PB Champ Elizabeth Carroll with smooth footwork and excellent transitions.

Henry Mullins looked sharp in every heat he surfed on Sunday. This continued in the final as he dominated the 6-surfer affair with style beyond his years.

Series leader and PB winner Vaun Harrison came in a solid second place in the stacked from 11U final.

In the Women’s Shortboard final Hana Bakker took her second title of the season putting on another dominating performance at Am Slam. She looks to be the woman to beat this year. Can anyone knock her off her throne? We will see, in San Clemente.
