Am Slam came into Ocean Beach last weekend under abnormally cloudy skies and strong offshore winds. Waves were much better than forecasted and everyone was stoked! Pros and groms alike were blowing up on the fun chest to shoulder high waves!
David Do Carmo, long time Am Slam surfer and pro surfer from Brazil took home the victory in the Pro division. The fierce competitor narrowly made the final on a last second ride in the semis. He took advantage of his fortune in the final putting the hammer down early and dropping two good scores. His competitors were left scrambling for good waves and no one could match his quality. The $2000 was his along with a gracious attitude and a huge smile! Wesley Santos made his third final of the year earning and second place and $1000 for his efforts. He is in the drivers seat to win the overall title! Alex Lima was the form surfer of the day. unfortunately, his wave luck ran out in the final and he had to settle for 3rd. La Jolla local Jacob Szekely took 4th making his
second final in row. He also threw down easily one of the biggest air revo's we have ever seen at am slam. What a legend!
On Sunday all the Grom’s and not-so-groms were ready to take over and they did! The longboard divisions were owned by the Van Wagoner family as Jack and Reid took home victories in their respective divisions, Reid also took out the womens shortboard final over an insanely stacked field! Congrats on the double victory girl! You earned it! (Note: Jack took second in the 15+ shortboard
division)
The 14U division was won by PB Champ Sutton Tudor. Absolutely dominating this year! a Second and two firsts for this super grom. Look out world, he is coming! Encinitas grom Ty Spencer looked impressive all day Sunday. Using his loose and radical approach to clinch his first victory at Am Slam. Stoked for this grom as he has been surfing the Pros on Saturdays and 15+ division on Sundays. He has been grinding hard and it finally paid off!
Quiet and lethal grom Owen Rowe won the 11U with smooth rail transitions and radical moves!
We will be at Belmont Park October 15-16 for our final event of the year. There will be an insane skate competition. Live music, tons of vendors and giveaways and lots lots more. Come join us!
